Y3S1 → Typeface Revival

For this project, I undertook a revival of the nineteenth-century typeface Breede Halfvette Antieke. Originally issued by Tetterode Amsterdam around 1890 and sourced from the German foundry Schelter & Giesecke, the typeface was designed as a bold, functional display style for posters, advertisements, and signage.

My process began with historical research into its origins and typographic qualities, followed by close analysis of letterforms from specimen books. Using Glyphs, I reconstructed each character, refining curves, proportions, and spacing to create a unified digital version.

The final outcome is a contemporary revival that preserves the sturdy, wide character of the original while making it suitable for modern use. The accompanying type specimen highlights its history, features, and design potential.

700 Bourke Typeface – Architecture-Inspired Type Design
This project involved designing a custom display typeface inspired by a randomly assigned building in Melbourne. I was given 700 Bourke Street, a contemporary structure defined by sharp angles, glass façades, and layered geometry.

Drawing from these architectural features, I created a modern, geometric display typeface that reflects the building’s clean lines and structural rhythm. Alongside the typeface, I developed a set of icons that echo the building’s visual language.

The final design was paired with a complementary body typeface and applied across various mock applications, showcasing its potential in editorial, branding, and signage contexts.
